In order to improve the printing quality and production efficiency, before printing, attention should be paid to checking whether the design draft has any unnecessary content; whether the text and lines are complete; and check the integrity of the overprinting line, color label, and various printing and cutting lines. Only in this way can we increase production efficiency and ensure the successful completion of printing.

Different packaging materials will have different printing processes. Since paper packaging materials are used most widely in real life, the following paper uses the printing process of paper packaging materials as an example to illustrate the relevant knowledge of the printing process.

Printing method

There are many methods of paper packaging printing, methods are different, the operation is also different, the effect of printing is also different. Traditionally used printing methods fall into the following four categories:

(1) Letterpress printing

Letterpress printing refers to the fact that the graphic part of the printing plate is higher than the non-graphic part, and the ink on the ink roller can only be transferred to the graphic part of the printing plate, while the non-graphic part has no ink, so that the printing of the printed matter is completed.

All printed papers have a slight impression on the back of the paper, the edges of the lines or dots are neat, and the ink appears light in the center, which is a relief print.

(2) Gravure Printing

In contrast to letterpress printing, the graphic portion of the plate is lower than the non-graphic portion and forms a groove. The ink is only covered in the groove, the printing plate surface is free of ink, the paper is covered on the upper part of the printing plate, the printing plate and the paper are pressurized, and the ink is transferred from the depressed part of the printing plate onto the paper.

The gravure printing products have the advantages of thick ink layers, bright colors, and high printing durability, stable printing quality, and high printing speed. Therefore, they have been widely used in practice.

(3) Lithography

The graphic part and the non-graphic part of the printing plate are kept flat on the surface, and the graphic part is covered with a grease-rich oil film, while the non-graphic part absorbs the appropriate moisture. When the ink is applied, the graphic part repels moisture and absorbs the ink, and the non-graphic part forms an ink-resistant effect due to absorption of moisture.

Tip: Since the lithography method is simple in operation and low in cost, it has become the most used method in printing today.

(4) Screen printing

Screen printing refers to that under the action of the squeegee, the ink leaks from the mesh hole of the graphic part to the substrate, and the non-graphic part of the screen mesh hole is blocked, and the ink cannot leak onto the substrate. Complete the print.

Tip: Screen printing can also be used for large area printing. The maximum printable product can reach 3 meters by 4 meters or even larger.
