Greenpeace Calls for Suspension of Gold East Paper Environmental Verification

Is the subsidiary of the Indonesian paper giant Jinguang Group going to the A-share market? Yesterday, the Ministry of Environmental Protection published on its official website the public notice of the environmental protection verification results of Jindong Paper (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. under the Jinguang Group, and stated that “after verification, the company basically meets the relevant requirements for the environmental verification of listed companies”. In response, Greenpeace, an international environmental organization that accuses the Golden Group of deforestation in China for many years, appealed yesterday that the Ministry of Environmental Protection should suspend the environmental verification procedures of Gold East Paper.

In addition to Jindong Paper, the verification company has its holding subsidiaries Jinhuasheng Paper (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., Ningbo Asia Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd., Ningbo Zhonghua Paper Co., Ltd., Hainan Jinhai Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd., and Shenyang Jinxin Pulp & Paper. Industry company and Guangxi Jingui Pulp & Paper Company. The Public and Environmental Research Center stated that except for Ningbo Zhonghua Paper and Guangxi Jingui Pulp & Paper, the remaining five companies have environmental defects.

Liu Bing, director of the Greenpeace Forest Protection Project, told reporters yesterday: “Greenpeace urges the Ministry of Environmental Protection to suspend the environmental verification process of Jindong Paper and conduct more in-depth investigations. It should also require Gold East Paper to publish all environmental information, including The document that was passed before the public review was disclosed. As a listed company, it must be responsible for the social and public environment. Given that it had a number of adverse environmental records before, we believe that Jindong Paper did not meet this requirement."
