Magnetic number (MICR) recognition

First, what is the magnetic number (MICR)

The magnetic number is a number 0-9, and a symbol as shown in the figure shows four symbols printed with magnetic ink or magnetic ribbon printed on the front of the check or other ticket in a specific location for magnetic readers The input method is commonly known as it.

In this way, in order to make the clearing and clearing operations of the clearing house quickly and correctly, and to reduce manpower load, the method of automatic processing is adopted to input the magnetic ink characters printed on the notes into the electronic reading sorter and read the bank code and amount of the magnetic characters on the ticket surface. The dates and other information are further classified and verified. This is a technique adopted by major clearing houses in the world, namely, “Magnetic Ink Character Recognition”. It is commonly known as “Magnetic Ink Character Recongnition”. Abbreviation MICR.

Second, the application of magnetic number

The application of magnetic numbers is to improve the efficiency of the processing of tickets. There are two common font systems in the world. One is the symbol of CMC-7, which is commonly used in Europe, and the other is E-13B, which is the national standard specification of the United States. The font used in our country.

(Note: E13B: E=The fifth proposal, that is, the fifth letter of the English word, 13B=The width of each field is 0.013", B=The second modification, which is the second letter of English. CMC 7 is the C=Code symbol, M=Megnetic magnetism, C=Charactertext digits, 7=forms a word with seven lines.)

Magnetic numbers are used in a wide range of applications: All types of documents, including cheques, gift certificates, bills of exchange, comprehensive income tax refund vouchers, bank cheques and various types of promissory notes, and specific clearing house exchanges, can be applied.

Third, magnetic number group understanding

The magnetic code is printed in the lower 1/4" band in the middle of the 5/8", and the remaining 3/16" positions above and below must be left blank to avoid affecting the magnetic font.

Since the reading direction of the bills into the machine is from right to left, that is, reading in the opposite direction, the bills must be classified according to the purpose of different fields. First, look at the scale map of the paper field to easily understand the position of each field, and then explain them separately:

(a) Amount Field

The range of keys is from 1/4 in at the right end of the bill to 1 7/8 in at the left. This field has a total of 12 digits and 10 digits. The left and right sides are then enclosed in "amount column delimiter". When the bill is printed, this field is blank, and the bank receives the depositor's note and re-prints the amount. The amount of bank bond printing can only be printed between 0-9 and 10 digits, and beside the amount figure, add a symbol. For example, the amount on the depositor's note is NT$100. The amount of the button after printing should be:

The rightmost "amount column delimiter" should be 5/16 +/- 1/16 in from the right end of the note.

(b) Domestic Field

The range of key prints, starting from the right end of the note from 1 7/8 in, extends to the left to 4 1/4 in. This field has 19 position intervals. There are only numbers, "concatenated symbols" and "separate symbols for personal use". Can appear in this field, some of which must be left blank in order to tolerate the difference in the keystrokes required for different time keys.

This field usually contains "transaction code" and "account number". Due to the special domestic environment, the "expiration date" must also be placed in this field. There must be a "used column separator" on the right side of the "account number". More than one "used column separator" is allowed in this field. If any part of the "Self Use column" is key-printed simultaneously with the "Amount column", the data on the key print may be immediately adjacent to the "Amount column delimiter" on the far left of the "Amount column". The entry into the "Amount column" does not affect machine reading.

(iii) Bank/Baranch Field

The range of the key print, from the right end of the note 4 1/4 in, extends to the left to the 5 3/4 in position. The clearing house/bank/branch code must be printed in this area. There are 9 locations in this column. Both sides are enclosed in "bank/branch column delimiter". The leftmost bank/branch column separator must be located at 5 9/16 in +/- 1/16 in place.

In addition to the numbers that can appear in the nine locations, the "cohesion symbol" can also appear in this field. If any part of the "Self Use column" is key-printed simultaneously with the "Bank/Branch column", the data on the keyprint can be immediately next to the "Bank/Branch column separator" on the far right side of the "Bank/Branch column". The "used column" has entered the "bank/branch column" slightly, but it does not affect machine reading.

(4) Auxiliary On Us Field

With a sufficient length of the ticket, you can key-print the "Auxiliary Self Use Column." The payment bank is usually used to print the serial number of the ticket or other data. The “Assistance” column data must be enclosed in the “Separated Use column” symbol. The maximum number of characters that can be printed in the field depends on the length of the ticket. Bank uses In terms of the type of reading and sorting machine, the Taipei region currently stipulates 7 digits.

When any E-13B font is printed in the “Assistance” column, it must start at a position within 1/4 in. of the symbol to the left of “Bank/Branch”. If the "Auxiliary Self Use Column" and the "Bank Branch Column" are both key-printed, the data on the keyprint may be immediately adjacent to the leftmost symbol of "Bank/Branch Column". Thus, the "Auxiliary Self Use Column" has been slightly entered into the "Bank/Banner Column". However, it does not affect the machines' reading of the data in the above fields. The "used column" and "assisted personal use column" can be set aside as required, and all other fields must be filled with "0".

Fourth, magnetic number check

In order to quickly control the quality of the E-13B or CMC7 imprint, in order to confirm that it can be accepted by the clearing house readers, it is necessary to always perform the quality test of the ticket printing, in addition to the use of highly sophisticated instrument testing, the other For visual inspection.

First introduce the instrument test method:

P55.jpg (15254 bytes) Turn on the instrument first and place the instrument in the instrument. The symbol will be selected on the screen of the instrument, and the curve or the readability of each character will be selected according to the desired requirements. Then the button can be printed by the printer. data.

Generally, when there is no instrument, only visual inspection or magnifying glass can be used to identify the quality of the text, or a simple transparent plate can be placed on the instrument to check whether the position, inclination, arrangement and configuration of the magnetic character are in compliance with the standard. A good precision magnifying lens can identify whether the font is too thick, too narrow, too thick or too light.

Now take the 8-word example as an example to briefly describe the authentication method.

The left figure shows a complete eight-character, magnetic ink fills every relevant square, and equal division of the gap between the two sides of the square is the most standard.
In the Chinese version, the printed image is too heavy. The edge of the image is beyond the limit of error. Some of the edges of the character are beyond the square and reach the adjacent square and are easily removed by the machine.
On the right, because the edges of the word are uneven, part of the magnetic ink is not filled with the same amount of squares. This font cannot be accepted by the machine.

In addition, the error of the horizontal position of each field is also limited. The error of moving to the left and right cannot exceed 1/16". The height difference of the vertical arrangement of magnetic codes cannot exceed 0.007" of the bottom line, in other words, it must be 1/16". The maximum inclination of the magnetic code is +/- 1 1/2, and the distance between any two adjacent words of the magnetic code font spacing error is based on the right edge line and must be separated by 0.125" +/- 0.01". Say, margins must not be less than the 0.115" limit.

There are many other restrictions, such as font area error, average edge tolerance error, edge irregular tolerance tolerance, void tolerance, ink surface uniform restrictions, etc. are very professional requirements, not to repeat
