Faced with increasingly stringent wood pallet import control policies, Rehrig Pacific has recently launched the RPX 4840 export pallet, which is a light weight and low price plastic pallet that is expected to replace wooden pallets.
The pallets are made from 100% recycled material. Compared to wooden pallets weighing more than 50 pounds, the RPX 4840 export pallet weighs only 17 pounds. Due to its light weight, each container can hold more than 700 pounds of product.
In addition, strict international standards have also promoted the growth of plastic pallets. The UN's International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) earlier set a global standard for timber transportation. The standard, which came into effect on September 15 this year, requires all wooden pallets to be heat-treated or smoke-sterilized with the ISPM 15 label attached. The relevant standards will not only increase freight costs, but goods that fail to comply with the standard will be refused entry or destroyed by the customs. A large number of exporters, especially food exporters, have switched to plastic pallets to ensure their goods reach their destinations smoothly.
According to statistics, sales of wooden pallets for export exceeded 80 million in the previous year.
