Newborn sleep safety check

A mattress that is too small can cause gaps in the bedside and can easily trap babies and suffocate them. Push the mattress to the end of the bed and check if the remaining gap is more than 4cm. If you can put two fingers between the mattress and the edge of the bed, it means the mattress is too small. To understand that a mattress that is too soft can easily be pushed to one side of the bed. In fact, you should not put your baby on any soft surface. Water beds, cloth pockets containing beans, and wrinkles and crevices on soft, loose surfaces can trap air around the baby's face and impede the baby's breathing. Check the baby's mattress support system regularly. Any hook that is not in the proper position must be repaired or replaced. The hooks and bedplates supporting the mattress should be securely embedded in the grooves by the safety clips.

Make sure the bed bumper is securely secured along the perimeter of the bed and use a strap to ensure safety. The straps bundled beyond the bumper should be cut to prevent the baby from chewing or being wrapped. At the same time, toys, wind accessories, pacifiers and bedding should also be inspected to ensure that there are no more than 18 cm long cords that may choke the baby. Lay the sheets and spread them as flat as possible, and squeeze the edges of the sheets tightly against the mattress to prevent wrinkles and impede the baby's breathing. Do not use active plastic mattress covers or waterproof sheets to prevent baby suffocation by wrapping around the baby's head. Sheets and blankets should be large enough to fit into the mattress, but the bedding should not be too tight, otherwise it will limit the baby's freedom of movement.

Usually infants can crawl in 4 to 5 months. When they climb to the bumper or toy at the bedside, they should be removed. Don't let them climb up and down. Do not put the bedside toys. Wrapped between railings or hung over the bed. When a baby crawls, older babies can easily become entangled with suspended ropes and become dangerous. The surrounding environment should be as fluff free as possible. If the baby is susceptible to respiratory allergies, use mattresses and bedding that are not prone to allergies, avoid placing toy animals that are covered with fluff, dust, and hair on the baby's bed, and avoid fluffy woolen bedding. Things like long hair, these things not only cause allergies, but also block the baby's respiratory tract.

Choose a place for your child's crib. Do not place it near a heating element or where curtains or fabrics hang down. Don't put it next to a window or furniture, because the child may crawl out of the crib and grab it with his hands or feet. Consider what happens if the child climbs out. The cribs should be placed in a suitable place so that they would not hit sharp things or be trapped between cribs and walls and furniture and cause death.

Don't let your sleeping baby stay with other children without supervision. Because other children may like to place the teddy bear next to the baby's head, this is very stupid. If the sound in the crib cannot be heard by all people in the house, use a portable baby remote controller to pay attention to any strange sound from the crib.

If you stay overnight, be aware that the room in your hotel or relative's home will never be as suitable for your child as your home. Therefore, when you go out, bring a light crib or roll a mat that is at least 2.5 cm thick. These are safer than the usual soft mattresses on the daybeds and folding beds in the motel. If you use the crib provided by the hotel, check it as described above.

When you put your baby in a stroller to sleep, you also need to stay alert. The mattress on the stroller is worse than any other bedding. Clean the mattress on the stroller regularly to remove dust and allergens. Also, don't stuff toys and pillows in the stroller. Of the items that cause infant choking, the stroller is second only to the crib.

If you use a temporary side bed (the side bed is a bed that is tied to your bed like a crib), it can keep your baby within reach of your mother for easy care and breastfeeding. At the same time, children will have their own sleeping space. Many parents do not buy safe side beds, but put their cribs on their beds. Some parents even removed the fence on the crib so that the two beds were tied together. Unfortunately, such cribs may slip off the edge of the bed, creating a gap between the two mattresses, causing the baby to be trapped or dropped on the ground. It is safer to buy a side bed to connect the child's mattress with the adult's mattress.
