Printmaking and Printing (Part 2)

Woodcuts have been used for more than 1,000 years. They use artificially carved wooden relief plates, overprinted with water-based paints, and the continuous water-and-ink paintings and colorful ink paintings reproduced exquisitely preserve the tone, charm and style of the original work. Its techniques are enduring. Woodcut watermark production process mainly includes the following four processes.

(1) hook trace version

The artwork is analyzed first to determine the number of plates and sub-plates. There are several colors of the manuscript, that is, several sets of color version, simple patterns generally need to be divided into several sets to dozens of sets.

(2) engraving

On the surface of the planed pear wood or jujube board, the hooked paper is pasted and the paper is ready for carving.

(3) Printing

According to the original work, one edition and one edition were overprinted. When printing, use rice paper or other types of materials. The printed materials are water-based pigments. Some of the works need to be partially rendered.

(4) Installation

Printed prints can be set off and smeared in traditional Chinese paintings for easy hanging or preservation.
