I also worked as an offset press captain when I was young, so I want to talk about my opinion on the topic of "how to be a good offset press captain".
1. The Captain's Organizational Ability and Cultivation
In current printing houses, an offset press is generally operated by two or three people. For high-speed multi-color sheetfed offset presses or web offset presses, most of them are operated by more than four persons. Therefore, the printing process of offset presses is collective The process of the job. In this small group, the leader is the captain of the offset press. The position of the captain is very important. He is not only related to product quality and output, but also directly related to the economic benefits of all machine operators. I think that a good captain should first be an excellent organizer, knowing the technical status of the operators of the machine well, can reasonably allocate work tasks, and make assistants each responsible. In addition, the captain should guide the assistant's technical progress and help them improve their technical level in a short period of time. The captain who must do everything is not an excellent captain, because in group work, it is difficult to do a good job by relying on personal strength alone.
The relationship between the pilot-in-command and the assistant is both a subordinate and a gay relationship. To handle this relationship well, as the captain, you must strengthen your self-cultivation. The so-called personal self-cultivation includes many, but here, I only emphasize 4 points. One is to be modest and guard against arrogance. The ancients said, "Three people must have my teacher." Only by complementing one's strengths with others' strengths can one's own technical level be further improved. The difference in talents between people is actually not as great as we imagined. If so, why can't we learn from other comrades? The second is to treat people kindly and guard against domineering. As the saying goes: everyone respects others, which means that only by respecting others can they be respected by others. In actual work, some captains are arrogant and arrogantly put on the captain's shelf. They think they can't listen to a little different opinions. Such a captain will sooner or later take the lead. The third is to be reasonable and beware of narrow-mindedness. This mainly refers to that during the production process, when some mechanical or process failures occur, some captains do not actively find the reason and carry out comprehensive treatment, but complain to the people, lose their temper, and sing "repent". What's more, the suspicion is very heavy, the atmosphere is tense, and the relationship is difficult. The fourth is to strengthen language cultivation. Some people say "language is honey, it can stick to everything". 2. The technical quality of the captain
If the captain does not have a high technical quality, how can he convince the crowd? What are the technical qualities of the captain?
First of all, the captain must have the basic knowledge of printing machinery, be familiar with the structure of the offset press he is operating, be very skilled in the adjustment of key parts, and judge the mechanical faults to be basically accurate. Zheng Banqiao is famous for his bamboo paintings, and he is able to "make bamboo with his chest." In the same way, the captain should have the entire offset press in his chest. Whether it is a domestic offset press or an imported high-end offset press, the basic principles are the same, but there are some differences in the specific operating methods. Generally speaking, domestic offset presses have a high probability of mechanical failure, but it does not mean that imported high-end offset presses will not fail mechanically. Now some people regard imported high-end offset presses as "fool machines", they think that they can operate the offset press with just a few buttons, this wrong understanding can only cause them to stand still in terms of technology. As the captain, we must be familiar with the basic composition and performance of these printing materials and these materials Changes in the printing process. In the printing process, it is necessary to grasp the variables in offset printing, that is, the environmental temperature and humidity, the thickness of the ink layer, the amount of wetting fluid, the accumulation of paper wool and ink residue on the blanket, and so on. The theory of water-ink balance and reasonable lining always runs through the practice of modern offset printing. Mastering the theory of water-ink balance and reasonable lining and putting it into practice is the criterion for measuring the level of the captain and the key factor for improving the quality of printing. Most printing process failures are reflected in the use of printed materials and process operation methods.
In addition, the safe and standardized operation method can also reflect the technical quality of the captain. Not only that, the level of the captain ’s operation of the offset press has a demonstration effect for the assistants, especially the newcomers who are new to the newcomer, they have seen the captain ’s operation method in their eyes and remembered it bit by bit. Even imitate. There are many captains who are very irregular in operation and do not follow the procedures but do whatever they want. The result is not a mechanical accident but a personal accident. Captains like this should be heavily punished. If such problems occur with the assistant, the captain should bear the main responsibility. The accidents that occur every year in printing plants across the country due to improper operation of offset presses are shocking. I often say that for inanimate machines, it is not difficult to change parts, but for living people, how painful it is to hurt your arm and hand. I hope that the captain will think about it.
3. Cultivation of the captain's ability
The offset printing process is a complex process. The problems that arise in this process are diverse. How to deal with these problems is a manifestation of the captain's ability. What do these abilities include and how are they cultivated? I think it should be considered from the following aspects.
1. Questioning power
Getting to the bottom of things is almost a necessary quality for all outstanding captains. Some people think that only those great and outstanding people have such a quality, and it does n’t matter if those of us who work in offset presses have such a quality. This is a very wrong idea. Questioning is a very valuable quality of thinking. The eyes of doubt and the spirit of exploration have always been an important driving force for the development of human cognition. Innovation generally starts with questioning. An excellent captain ca n’t do without strong doubt. Let me give an example. When we printed the first batch of prints, everything was normal. However, when we printed another batch of prints, the result was either a technical problem or a mechanical problem. At this time, we need to ask a few more why, this is the performance of the captain's doubt. Some captains have the courage to explore, trace roots, make bold assumptions, carefully verify evidence, and work hard to troubleshoot; while some captains encounter such a problem and say: "This work cannot be done." Obviously, the latter will not be an excellent captain. 2. Observation
The so-called observation ability is the ability to comprehensively, accurately and deeply understand the characteristics of things, and is the ability that must be possessed to extract the fruits of success. During the printing process, the captain heard and witnessed that he must not only observe the operation of the machine, but also keep observing the changes in the printing plate moisture and ink roller ink volume, especially to continuously draw the print samples and adjust the water and ink balance through comparative observation. At the same time, you can also find a series of problems such as the situation of blanket ink accumulation, dot changes, paste version and so on. This kind of observation is not a matter of looking at the water and watching the flowers, but a very patient and meticulous work, which should never be taken lightly.
3. Judgment
Observation can inspire thinking, and judgment is the determination of the thinking object. Either affirm it or a negative form of thinking. In the actual printing process, there will often be one or another process, machine failure. At this point, judgment is very important. First of all, judgment must be true. Only on the basis of truth can judgment be meaningful. Second, judgment must be accurate. This is a concrete manifestation of keen judgment. Of course, accurate judgment should be based on observation power, relevant knowledge, and operating experience. In addition, the judgment should be timely, and timely and accurate judgment can reduce unnecessary auxiliary time to further improve the output and quality of the printed parts.
4. Thinking power
Correct thinking is a crucial condition for solving the problem. When the process or machinery fails during the printing operation, there must be a correct way of thinking. It cannot be rigid and believe in dogma. Instead, believe the facts and use the scanning method. Broaden the direction of the search, rather than eagerly go deeper into a certain direction to explore. When something is within sight, try to look at it in a different way, rather than rush to focus on something else. An excellent captain must not only be good at thinking, but also pay special attention to the cultivation of thinking methods.
