A German company recently developed a new type of anti-counterfeiting label system, which uses laser beams to drive data information into the labels in the form of micrometer-sized light spots, and identifies the holograms formed by light spots to identify the authenticity of products. The new system combines the advantages of data storage technology for holograms and polymeric materials. The laser beam is used to burn a random number of light spots on a film of polymer material that is only 20,000 m thick. The film can be branded per square millimeter. In use, the hologram is reproduced through a special reading device and a laser beam, and the product information stored in the light spot is read out.
