Japanese mobile phone housing with enhanced PlA

Cell phone housings on the Japanese market have now begun to use polymer composites derived from cereals, in which NEC's Foma N701 1eco mobile phone case is replaced by kenaf-reinforced polylactic acid (PLA) resin instead of traditional petroleum-based plastics.

Allegedly, about 90% of the casing of this kind of mobile phone is made of bioplastics and jointly developed by NEC Electronics and Unitika, a textile/plastics group. According to NEC, Tim-l:!kenaf fiber can increase the PLA strength and heat resistance of the Unitika brand to Terramac, increasing the PLA's heat-resistant temperature by 200. C above. This shell also improves impact performance by adding bio-based plasticizers and fillers. (Liu Gonghua)
