In the face of this situation, relevant industry associations issued a notice in mid-September, recommending paper packaging companies to increase the sales price of cardboard boxes and cardboard by 25%.

The analysis believes that the increase in the price of packaging paper is mainly due to the increase in the price of paper raw materials. In the first eight months of this year, the import prices of Chinese paper raw materials showed an increasing trend. In the first eight months, the average price of imported waste paper in China was US$215 per ton, up 72.1% year-on-year; the average price of imported wood pulp was US$764.4 per ton, up 63.5% year-on-year. In addition, the reduction in imports of corrugated base paper and the increase in exports have also led to a reduction in domestic supply and an increase in the price of corrugated base paper. According to customs statistics, in the first eight months of this year, China imported a total of 166,000 tons of corrugated paper, a decrease of 53.4%; the export of corrugated paper was 11,000 tons, an increase of 75.5%.

In addition, some industry analysts have analyzed that the implementation of energy-saving emission reduction policies has led to the rising threshold of paper-making enterprises. The domestic market share is basically occupied by the eight major paper mills, which also leads to weak competition within the industry, and it is easy to form price alliances.
