Polyamines (PA) are a class of growth regulators. The effects of PA are diverse, including affecting cell division, root growth, flowering and fruit development, and cell apoptosis. In addition, polyamines may play an important role as an important regulator of plant stress. One of the important environmental stresses is salt stress. Whether maintaining high levels of PA under stress can improve plant tolerance to salt stress has been controversial.
Australian scientists have used non-damage micro-testing techniques to study the mitigation effect of polyamines on plant salt stress. In contrast, the PA pretreatment resulted in a significant NaCl-induced K + outflow at the end of the root elongation zone, and the three polyamines had different effects, Spm4 +> Spd3 + = Put2 +. By measuring the H + flow rate in all areas, it was found that PA has a highly specific pathway for affecting the transport of cell membranes. The mitigation effect of polyamines is the result of a complex combination of factors, which may include the transport and accumulation of PA in the cytoplasm, metabolic and functional expression, specific target proteins or signaling elements.
Through this study, polyamines can be explained as a means to improve the adverse effects of salt stress. The ability of roots to maintain K + under NaCl stress can be used as a physiological index to evaluate the mitigation effect of polyamines.
