Scientists say the research shows that investigators can not only obtain new detailed information from long-standing human remains, but also help identify the characteristics of crime victims. The researchers said that the DNA and color of the eyes and hair of human ancestors thousands of years ago could be identified by DNA alone. By comparing the genes of thousands of people, researchers found 24 genetic variants in the human genome related to eye and hair color. Past studies have used these genes to help determine the appearance of the latest death. Now a team of researchers from Poland and the Netherlands has further developed this system to uncover the appearance of humans who died long ago.
Geneticist Wojciech told the Life Science Network: "We can understand the appearance of humans who died hundreds of years ago. This system can be used to resolve historical disputes caused by the loss of color photographs or other records." The researchers called their name The system for HIrisPlex can predict blue eyes or brown eyes with 94% accuracy. When it comes to hair color, the prediction accuracy for blonde, brown, red, and black hair is 69.5%, 78.5%, 80%, and 87.5%, respectively.
For ancient samples, this system is still able to predict the eye and hair color of the remains of the body about 800 years ago.
