Air cushion blanket

50 years ago, the blanket was made of natural rubber (INDIA-RUBBER), and later replaced by synthetic rubber, such as the standard orange blanket of the early Heidelberg GTO, KORD printing machines and machines, and the third generation is the commonly used air cushion Type blanket (available around 1960). The first air cushion rubber was "VULKAN 714", followed by Perfect Dot. This rubber is still used today and has become the standard material for most Heidelberg presses. Commonly used blanket brands in Hong Kong are Meiji of Japan, Phoenix of Germany, VU LK AN, PRINTEC, Day of the United States and so on.

Air cushion blankets can be widely used, mainly because of their ability to help reduce the resilience of paper adhesion and good dot reduction ability. The surface and structure of the air cushion rubber have a great influence on its characteristics, so traditional rubber has been rarely used. (The requirements for blankets can refer to DIN 16621).

Advantages of air cushion blanket:

1. The linear speed of the printing plate and rubber cylinder is better matched;
2. High degree of reduction of outlets;
3. Reduce the deformation of the substrate;

As mentioned in the introduction, blankets have a great influence on print quality, so they are very important in terms of choice and care. First of all, pay attention to the structure of the blanket such as fiber layer and return air cushion layer; is the surface layer a smooth or rough (hard) surface? Is the surface layer milled or made of chemical organization? Of course, the structure and organization of the blanket is still the secret of the manufacturer, and we cannot know it all.

The blanket has a fiber layer, an air cushion layer, and a rubber layer, but what we are most interested in is the surface layer. About 80% of the rubbers are now 4-layer structures. : Surface layer (0.35 to 0.4mm), fiber layer (about 0.25 to 0.3mm), air cushion layer (0.35 to 0.4mm), base layer (about 0.25 to 0.3mm).

The air cushion layer can be divided into three categories: MICROSPHERE sealed air cushion, BLOWING sealed air cushion, and SALT LEACH open air cushion. MSI air cushion rubber is more common nowadays. According to expert recommendations, the salt filter air cushion can have better printing effect. PERFECT DOT rubber is the rubber cloth in this way.

Most of the printing quality depends on the rubber surface layer. The surface layer mostly adopts embossing, grinding or high grinding. The surface layer also has other factors that affect printing, such as the viscosity of the paper surface. What are the benefits of using air cushion rubber? The air cushion is described as the resilience of the rubber. The resilience can prevent the rubber from deforming the surface when it is pressed, which has a positive effect on the reproduction of the dot. Even so, many people mistakenly think that because of the resilience relationship, the printing force should be greater (corresponding to elasticity), which is not entirely correct. The corresponding elasticity of a general air cushion blanket is 4 to 8%, while that of a traditional blanket is less than 4%.

The blanket is textured, mainly divided into one part tough and the other part elastic. Basically, most printing staff ignore the lines of blankets, because most of the blankets are already cut. But if the blanket is cut from a large size to a small size, then pay more attention. The blanket must be tough to balance the printing direction. The so-called printing direction usually uses the line as a reference line. In addition, we also need to pay attention to cutting the blanket to a suitable size (do not be too long, because too long will cause the blanket to loosen on the roller, and the blanket will fall off, and the aluminum strip or iron of the blanket Strip indentation roller!) Others For ease of installation, we usually cut a small corner on both ends of the blanket, and apply sealing paint on both sides of the rubber to prevent the water (or car wash) from rising. Another thing to note is that remember to clean the rubber every day and make good maintenance measures!

The thickness of the blanket is from 1.35 to 3.00mm, except for special purposes, usually 1.95mm. Although the thickness of the blanket is measured by a suitable instrument, please note that the front end of the instrument must not have sharp edges. According to DIN ISO 12636, the standard of attention is required when measuring!

What criteria do you use to choose a blanket?

The quality of Perfect Dot from Heidelberg is one of the best. Other brands may have excellent results in special applications (field, flat screen, sticky) (such as the quality requirements are not too strict or the substrate is rough, you may consider not using Expensive blanket.).
The rubber with aluminum strip is quick and easy to replace, and ensures that the whole rubber is evenly pulled. If using a clamp, make sure not to tighten from both sides to the middle when tightening the screw (rubber may produce uneven surface or convex hull). The blanket clip iron must be straight and without bending! Make sure to place it in the center during installation. If necessary, press down the raised parts on both sides with a small wire cutter. The tensile force of the blanket on the printing machine (10% of the length of the rubber mark minus 5 N / m):

The tightening action should be repeated two or three times, during which the printer needs to be pressed together for a period of time. If the rubber tension is too high, the intermediate fiber fabric will be damaged due to excessive tension, but the rubber tension is too little, and the dots will be deformed. This also requires careful measurement of the actual height of the lining (you can use the lining height measuring device such as HEIDELBERG to measure Device). There is a printing machine with glazing in the workshop, and a rubber for partial glazing. I suggest using the rubber "VULKAN" which is easy to tear.
