Barley root plasma membrane transporter controls Na + / K + balance after salt stress

The salt tolerance of plants is a polygenic trait caused by genetics, development, physiology, and the interaction between plants and the environment. Intracellular Na + / K + balance is a key factor in plant salt tolerance. In salt environment, plants will prevent excessive accumulation of intracellular Na +, maintain intracellular K + concentration, and maintain an appropriate intracellular Na + / K + ratio to resist salt. Coercion, however, little is known about how this process is achieved.

In 2007, Australian scientists used “non-damaging micro-measurement” and other technologies to study the K + flow and Na + flow of barley under salt stress, unveiling the process of achieving Na + / K + balance. The process of achieving salt resistance in salt-tolerant genotype barley is the result of a combination of multiple mechanisms, including: (1) maintaining a higher negative potential by controlling the membrane voltage; (2) increasing the activity of the H + pump; (3 ) Improve the ability of cells to expel Na +; (4) Increase the sensitivity to Ca2 +. At the same time, the density and voltage dependence of the outflow K + channel after unidirectional 22Na + inflow or depolarization activation of the control varieties were not significantly different. The research results are consistent with K + / Na + as the determinant of plant salt tolerance, indicating that plant salt tolerance is controlled by multiple pathways. The results of this study provide an effective method for variety selection.

The non-damage micro-measurement technology has been applied to the study of ion transport mechanism. The dynamic balance and other information of detected ions have been widely accepted and applied by scientific researchers, and have made breakthrough progress.
