The outdoor environment of non-woven shopping bags only degrades in half a year

In just one year after the "plastic restriction", cotton bags and paper bags were thrown out of the "generation plastic" because they were not waterproof. The non-woven shopping bags with bright colors and different shapes gradually walked from behind the scenes to the stage and became household names as "environmental protection stars."

According to estimates by the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, the future market demand for degradable plastic packaging products in China is about 2 million tons. Based on an average of 20,000 yuan per ton, the national market will have a huge business opportunity of 40 billion yuan.

For the short process flow, high output, wide source of raw materials, long service life and degradable non-woven fabric, its potential in replacing ultra-thin plastic bags is self-evident.

So, what exactly is non-woven fabric? The data shows that non-woven fabric, a chemical fiber product, is formed by directional or random braiding of short textile fibers or filaments to form a web structure, which is then reinforced by mechanical, thermal bonding or chemical methods.

In the face of the new policy of restricting plastics, it seems that everyone sees business opportunities.

An industry operator said that the cost of an A4 paper-sized non-woven shopping bag is about 1 yuan, while the price of bags sold in supermarkets ranges from 3 yuan to 5 yuan.

It is understood that along the coast of Zhejiang, some processing factories that originally produced luggage and even many garment factories have also aimed at non-woven fabric business opportunities and started to switch to non-woven fabric production.

In order to seize the huge market of non-woven products, some international supermarket giants such as Carrefour, Metro, Wal-Mart and others have also launched their own brand non-woven shopping bags.

At the cash register of supermarkets such as Carrefour and Yichu Lotus in Beijing, various non-woven bags are hung at a price of about 3.5 to 5 yuan, and some have also taken measures such as "using shopping tickets for environmental protection bags" to improve The enthusiasm of consumers to use environmental protection bags.

On June 15, Metro (China) also announced that from now on, it will stop selling plastic bags in 38 malls across the country. This means that in the future, consumers may not be able to buy plastic bags in some supermarkets.

In fact, it is not cloth. On the one hand, major merchants purchase and distribute in large quantities. On the other hand, more and more consumers are shopping with non-woven bags. However, Zhu Minru, chairman of the China Industrial Textile Association, publicly called for the production of non-woven bags to pay attention to cost issues, waterproof, oil-proof, anti-pollution and other functional issues, and recycling issues. Therefore, "non-woven bags should prevent secondary pollution."

Professional organizations such as the Green Packaging Professional Committee of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences issued a reminder to merchants and consumers: "Non-woven bags are also plastic products. If they are used in large quantities for a long time, I am afraid they will become another huge source of white pollution after plastic bags."

According to reports, the current raw material composition of the nonwovens industry is roughly: 63% for polypropylene, 23% for polyester, 8% for viscose, 2% for acrylic fibers, 1.5% for polyamide, and the rest for other fibers.

Since the reuse rate of non-woven bags is much higher than that of plastic bags, it is very environmentally friendly from this point of view. But the main component of non-woven fabric is polypropylene, and polypropylene is a petrochemical product. This material is difficult to degrade under normal temperature or indoor environment, and it takes about half a year to degrade under outdoor environment.

In the opinion of some experts, "nonwoven fabric itself is also a chemical product and is not the best substitute." In addition, nonwoven fabric will consume a lot of oil resources in the production process. From this point of view, nonwoven fabric shopping bags are not The real environmental protection bag.

At the same time, the cost of degradable plastic bags needs to be reduced. At the same time, the "Plastic Limitation Order" has also prompted some businesses, especially shopping malls, to make heavy use of paper bags.

In the eyes of environmentalists, although paper bags can degrade in the natural environment, the energy resource consumption and environmental pollution caused by the papermaking process may be more serious than plastic shopping bags.

The relevant person in charge of the China Engineering Plastics Industry Association believes that whether it is a paper bag, a degradable bag, or other so-called "green" and "environmental protection" packaging products, it has a certain impact on the environment, but it is relatively small. The real cause of white pollution in plastic bags is excessive use and inadequate recycling.

At present, China consumes more than 3 billion plastic bags every day. If each person uses only one plastic bag per day and reuses it, 2 billion plastic bags will be produced every day.

According to the standard, plastic shopping bags are divided into three types, namely ordinary plastic shopping bags, degradable plastic shopping bags, and starch-based plastic shopping bags. According to reports, only degradable plastic bags are environmentally friendly bags, which are divided into photodegradation and biodegradation.

Experts point out that due to technical limitations, most of the so-called "environmental protection bags" currently appearing in some markets in China are not degradable. Therefore, in a sense, if the cost of degradable plastic bags is reduced to the level acceptable to the people, then it will allow consumers to continue to enjoy convenience and practicality, while effectively realizing the white pollution.

Moreover, the purpose of "limiting plastics" is to encourage consumers to carry cloth bags and pick up vegetable baskets to reduce white pollution and achieve environmental protection. Therefore, while seeking other natural and bio-replaceable products, experts believe that it may be more important to change the public's consumption concept.
