Laurysen Creates Dream Kitchen for the CHEO Dream Home

This year, the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery has added a special touch with the involvement of Laurysen. The dream home's kitchen and vanities were designed by Laurysen’s talented designer, Elnaz Shahrokhi, in partnership with the Kiss Design Group. It’s a collaboration that brings both style and purpose to the project. The annual lottery is organized by the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation, a cause that has raised millions over the years through its successful fundraising events. Among the many exciting prizes is the highly sought-after Minto Dream Home, which this year features the unique design work from Laurysen. Laurysen was approached by the CHEO Foundation back in February to donate the cabinets and vanities for the dream home. “When we heard about it, we knew we had to be part of it,” says project coordinator Corey Laurysen. “CHEO does incredible work for the community, and supporting them felt like the right thing to do.” The design process was a true team effort between Laurysen and Kiss. “They had an idea, and we offered our recommendations. It was a real back-and-forth,” Corey explains. This collaboration led to some creative and innovative ideas, such as the custom walk-in pantry featuring metal-like tubing supporting floating shelves—an eye-catching detail that stands out. The kitchen itself is built to last, with high-quality materials and finishes. It includes granite countertops from Mountain Granite, Laurysen cabinets painted in Benjamin Moore’s Escarpment, a farm sink, decorative shelves, and top-of-the-line appliances. The vanities throughout the house are equally impressive, each crafted with a different wood type—solid maple, hickory, and even one in the basement gym. Designing a space that appeals to everyone was a key goal. “We wanted something that would have broad appeal,” Corey says. The result is a kitchen that blends classic colors with a country feel and modern touches, making it both timeless and inviting. The entire project took eight months to plan, build, and install. “It was a long process, but we wanted everything to be perfect,” Corey adds. Even after installation, small adjustments were made to ensure every detail was just right. “I still saw a door I needed to tweak during my last visit. That’s what it takes to get it right.” With the grand opening set for September 12, the team is excited to see the public’s reaction. Last year, over 45,000 people visited the home, a number that far exceeds their showroom traffic. “It’s a great chance to showcase our work,” Corey says. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the designers behind the home on September 24 and November 11. A couple of Laurysen designers will be there to answer questions and schedule appointments for those interested in their services. So far, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. “Everyone who has seen it has nothing but praise for the kitchen,” Corey says. “I’m really proud of the team.” And when asked if they’d do it again, Corey didn’t hesitate: “Absolutely, we’d be 100% on board.” Check out more of Laurysen’s inspiring designs and discover how they bring dreams to life.
