I've always been used to the bronze look of Mr. Cool. Who would have thought that this sexy male god is actually a little old street rat? Recently, the massive private toy warehouse of Gu Tianle in Fotian, Hong Kong, has been exposed by various media outlets. Spanning over 10,000 square feet, the warehouse houses dozens of rare 1:1 doll models and more than 1,000 collectible toys, including Iron Man — all of which are filled with rare and precious treasures. Many people are eager to visit this sci-fi-themed space, but the collection remains mostly private, with only occasional visits by friends.
A few days ago, under the arrangement of a Hong Kong-based charity fund, three families in need were lucky enough to tour the toy warehouse. Gu Tianle personally acted as a guide, welcoming the visitors with warmth. He carefully helped the children navigate the stairs and even presented them with gifts. It was clear that his love for others was truly heartfelt.
What treasures lie within Mr. Cool’s toy warehouse? Some say it's the ultimate dream come true for every otaku and big kid. Among the highlights is the "Black Warrior" from *Star Wars*, which Louis Koo bought at Cannes. This 1:1 doll was the starting point of his collecting journey. He also owns a complete set of Avengers characters — Spider-Man, Batman, Iron Man, and more — all in 1:1 scale. When asked about the total value of his collection, Gu Tianle simply replied, “I don’t remember how much I spent. These dolls are priceless to me.â€
In 2007, he spent 6 million HKD to buy a factory in Sha Tin Fotan and turn it into a private toy warehouse. The place also houses several signed *Star Wars* memorabilia sets, which he once auctioned off. Despite its grandeur, the warehouse isn't often open. Gu Tianle mentioned that without lights, the life-sized toys look eerie, so he rarely visits except for meetings or when he needs inspiration.
He once hired a cleaner, but she couldn’t handle the cold air and the delicate nature of the dolls. Eventually, a cleaning company took over. He joked that the warehouse is like a secret base, where the only "inhabitants" are the toys and the occasional cockroach — which he says are scary at night.
After the recent charity event opened the warehouse to the public, many netizens praised Mr. Cool for his kindness. Some even said they'd love to visit his toy empire one day. Gu Tianle, known for his sharp tongue, has shown a softer side through these good deeds.
In 2008, he published a book called *Toy Wars*, sharing his lifelong collection and raising money for charity. His rare toys also held an exhibition in Taikoo Shing, Hong Kong, with proceeds going to UNICEF. Beyond toys, he has established 63 primary schools on the mainland and invested in a new public welfare film, *Lovely You*.
Gu Tianle may be a toy collector, but he’s also a generous heart with a deep commitment to giving back.
