One of our favorite activities for kids during springtime is creating sun catchers. There’s something magical about making something vibrant that reflects the light beautifully. Usually, we enjoy using contact paper and tissue papers to create these, but this time around, we were looking for a fresh twist for an Easter-themed craft. That’s how we came up with the idea of turning transparent plastic Easter eggs into colorful suncatchers that we could hang on our Easter tree.
To get started, all you’ll need are some Sharpie markers, string or ribbon, and those clear plastic eggs. Even our curious cat seemed intrigued by the process!
We went with soft pastel-colored Sharpies, which gave us the freedom to doodle any Easter or spring-inspired patterns we liked. Flowers and butterflies turned out particularly stunning. For an extra touch of creativity, we experimented with drawing egg-shaped dots in various Easter colors—this added a delightful flair to each piece.
Charlotte took the lead on one design, sketching a large chick, while I filled my egg with tiny chick illustrations. It was such a fun way to celebrate the hatching chicks at school! These designs would also be perfect if you wanted to hide small chocolate eggs inside them for an Easter treasure hunt. Imagine the excitement as kids search for these decorative eggs hanging among real ones!
Once decorated, we attached matching pastel ribbons to the tops of the eggs so they could easily be hung. To make our Easter tree, we collected some branches from the yard and spray-painted them white. While this step might not be ideal for younger hands due to safety concerns, it certainly added a crisp, clean aesthetic to our project. The branches could easily transition into other seasonal decor throughout the year.
The final result? Absolutely breathtaking! When sunlight hits these suncatchers, they shimmer and shine, creating a cheerful ambiance indoors. Whether displayed on your Easter tree or simply hung in a window, these crafts bring a burst of color and joy to any space.
If you're searching for more Easter-themed projects to engage your kids, there's no shortage of inspiration. From gingerbread houses to Easter egg truffles, there are countless ways to keep little hands busy and creative minds buzzing. And don’t forget about Easter movies to cap off the day with some cozy family time.
Creating these sun catcher Easter eggs was both enjoyable and straightforward—a perfect combination for family crafting. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to incorporate art into seasonal celebrations without making too much of a mess. So next time you’re planning an Easter activity, consider giving this project a try—you won’t regret the colorful results!
