Sandra Benhamou radiates a sense of calm and warmth. Born in Paris to Italian-Tunisian roots, Sandra Benhamou has spent much of her life in the United States. A self-taught interior designer, she draws inspiration from her surroundings and the unique histories of the places she works in. Whether it's a classic Haussmann apartment, a countryside retreat, or a coastal villa, Sandra's designs are deeply influenced by the location's architectural heritage and the natural light that shapes the space. Her approach is intuitive, allowing her to create environments that feel both personal and inviting.
Sandra Benhamou is known for her ability to transform spaces by reimagining circulation paths to make them more fluid and conducive to social interaction. Her aesthetic leans towards muted tones—ochre, sand, cream—balanced with pops of warm colors like yellow, orange, and khaki to add depth and character. Natural materials such as elm wood, linen, and travertine feature prominently in her work, but she doesn't shy away from contrasting textures. For instance, a kitchen might incorporate aged nickel doors paired with stainless steel countertops, while a living room could boast walls upholstered in wild silk for a touch of elegance. Sandra avoids rigid formulas; every project feels fresh and bespoke.
Beyond private commissions, Sandra Benhamou has also undertaken several public projects. In 2015, she transformed the old aquarium in Dinard into the luxurious 5-star hotel, Le Castelbrac, adding Art Deco touches throughout. Her work at the Hôtel Belloy in Saint-Germain-des-Prés reflects a carefree bohemian spirit, blending prints and patterns seamlessly. Other notable projects include the Blitz Society—a Left Bank bar dedicated to chess—and the showroom for fabric designer Métaphores. Sandra enjoys variety in her work, constantly seeking new challenges. She is currently preparing to launch Casa Barbara, an innovative senior living concept in Levallois-Perret, designed in collaboration with the Trigano Group and Korian. Every detail—from communal areas to individual apartments—was carefully crafted under her vision to create welcoming, homely spaces far removed from typical nursing home aesthetics.
Since the early days of her career, Sandra has designed custom Furniture tailored to specific client needs. By 2021, she began releasing full-fledged collections. Her debut collection, Ginger, pays homage to Martin Scorsese's film "Casino," featuring pieces like a cabinet bar, vanity mirror, and armchairs crafted from stainless steel, brass, and mirrors. Her follow-up collection, Marfa, nods to the small Texas town where Donald Judd once worked, embracing a minimalist yet graphic style. The Folk collection emphasizes subtle combinations of elm and cork, pine and raffia, ash and cherry. Each piece is handmade by skilled artisans and produced in limited editions. To showcase her creations, Sandra curates immersive settings, drawing upon her talent for temporary architecture. One highlight was designing the Elle Décoration café exhibit at PAD 2022, centered around themes of travel.
A graduate of ESSEC Business School, Sandra began her journey in interior architecture by constructing her own country house in the Hamptons. She established her Paris-based agency in 2010, nestled on Place du Palais Bourbon. Here, surrounded by a tight-knit team, she juggles multiple projects simultaneously. Sandra immerses herself fully in each endeavor, paying meticulous attention to every last detail. Her passion for the craft shines through as she offers an intimate glimpse into the world of decoration.
