Royal British Forces Training Manual (Chapter 5)

Patrol skills

Special aircrew patrols are based on patrols of four persons. All the elite troops have already experienced patrols of different sizes.

Seek the best combination of mobility, load capacity, omnidirectional monitoring, expertise, and firepower. In the 1950s, when the special air traffic missions carried out reforms, they identified the four-person patrol as an ideal formation and followed it. Patrol members of conventional special aircrews will tend to have specific expertise, such as field medicine, blasting and reconnaissance. With the integration of expertise, it can form a combat force that is capable of attacking and attacking forces with superior capabilities and can demonstrate great independence regardless of the circumstances.

However, since the various special skills are only taught after the new team member becomes a member of the special airline group, during the special training period, the coaches must look for new players who can play their part in the patrol structure. Members need to be able to fully assume their responsibilities, and they should not be able to cause a slight oversight in the structure.

In general, depending on the terrain and mission, the four crew members of the special air force regiment are in a column, square or diamond shape. At the same time, the patrol team can quietly and easily follow the transformation of the formation. However, each patrol usually has a leading scout, acting as the chief eye of the patrol and also playing a leading role. At the same time, the officer is also responsible for investigating the traps that may be set on the road ahead. The responsibility for this work is extremely important and requires a high level of nervousness. Followed by the patrol commander. He is responsible for reviewing the direction of the march and sending instructions to front and rear personnel via patrol members. Followed by a signalman. At the tail of the team is the deputy commander who is responsible for the rear cover of the patrol. At the same time, he must observe the movements of the front line personnel.

A four-person patrol team should gather 360-degree shots, and each member should be responsible for the specified range of fire control and monitoring.

A four-person patrol team should gather 360-degree shots, and each member should be responsible for the specified range of fire control and monitoring. The patrol should respond quickly and in a coordinated manner to incidents from any direction. Special training will test this ability of the patrol. In the ambush war, they must be able to launch violent attacks and recreate the enemy within a few seconds before they are evacuated. This will cause heavy concern to those who have escaped and pursued. Each member of the patrol team should have a clear understanding of the right shooting field in order to achieve effective ambushes. In addition, good linguistic and non-verbal communication skills among members can also ensure the effectiveness of the ambush.

The special training will also provide new players with various “drilling exercises” that will allow them to react maximally when the patrols themselves are attacked. The new team will continue to undergo reaction training, knowing that it has become their second instinct - if they can't reach this goal, there are only a few opportunities before they are eliminated. DS hopes to see the patrols coordinate as one and be able to expand into a fan-shaped state and enter a defensive state. During the unfolding process, a member of the patrol, usually a commander, should shoot and disperse the enemy. In a matter of seconds, all members should use fierce firepower to launch intensive attacks on the left and right sides of the enemy, or even advance the enemy, causing confusion. Until the evacuation, the two covert personnel should be behind the house to block the chase. However, after other people have evacuated some distance, they have to provide fire protection for the two personnel to help them withdraw. Another tactic of evacuation is simply to allow everyone to evacuate and then meet at a designated location. Due to the decentralization of the patrols, the enemy will feel stunned and do not know where to chase, and their power will be dispersed.

The walls of the building have been treated with a special type of rubber that is embedded in thousands of rounds of live ammunition launched by the “House of Destruction” every year.

In theory, these patrol skills sound quite clear and clear. However, in practice, in the face of enemy bombardment, if the members of the troops are not well-trained, they will fall apart and fall into chaos. Therefore, in special training, the coach will allow the patrol members to experience different situations as much as possible to see how they react. The coach hopes to find a person whose mind can still be awake and sensible in the face of unimaginable pressure. The test of this reactivity was conducted in the notorious "House of Destruction." From the outside, "House of Destruction" is not enough to show its name. It is a dignified, windowless, and simple rectangular building. However, it is here that special air traffic missions are carrying out training on the rescue of hostages and counter-terrorism in the context of the city. In special training, new players experienced for the first time the tactics of high-speed change and the ability to respond to the hostage crisis. Among these, for the hostages and rescue workers, the waste of a few seconds may mean the difference between life and death. Once the new team has grown into a truly special airline group through this sharpening, their overall skills in solving hostages will be further strengthened.

The building is basically a long corridor with rooms on both sides. The walls of the building—thick, heavy metal-cured wooden sleepers—are treated with a special kind of rubber that is embedded every year in thousands of “Doom House” launches. The live ammunition. The rooms on each side are different, and their layout is constantly changing. When soldiers walk along the corridor and clean up each room, they can meet new challenges. The design of the rooms is very flexible. For example, some layouts are very similar to supermarkets, train cars or aircraft cabins.

The goal of the "House of Destruction" is to enter the other side of the building and use groups as a unit to clean up each terrorist's room and simultaneously rescue the hostages. The entire process is designed to place new players in extreme tension. Imagine grenades flew across the air, debris fluttering; in a confined space, the submachine gun made a deafening sound; the air was filled with smoke; and there was pressure: even in excitement, one could not mistakenly kill an innocent person. The hostages - which rarely lead people to successfully pass through the "House of Destruction" under self-control. The members of the real special aircrews played fictional hostages. When grenades blew up beside them and the bullets fell, they must be sitting. Each DS mainly sees who will stay calm, follow the rhythm of the attack, and will not fear the end of panic and lack of decision. Access to each room has a clear purpose, and the ability to respond quickly must be strengthened. Of course, the first few times involved in the “House of Destruction” made new players feel tired and unprepared, but they will soon make progress and master the correct attack procedures.

Through the continuous exercise of these exercises, a procedure for effective rescue of hostage tasks began to become their second instinct. They learned to take advantage of the rapid and conditioned reflexive response, while abandoning the reaction of slow, conscious thought-formula. By using a closed-circuit camera to record what happens in each room, it is a great benefit to this critical learning process. All these records are then given to the new team members to watch them see their mistakes.

Let's return to the “House of Destruction” in Chapter 6 to see how “anti-subversive warfare wing” cultivates and strengthens superb hostage rescue skills. However, let us now look at the little-known part of special training - covert surveillance and deployment of skills training.
