The first domestic superconducting magnet adopting the cable conductor in the niobium tritin tube was successfully developed

A few days ago, the superconducting test magnet manufactured by the niobium-thin-tin tube cable conductor developed by the Strong Magnetic Field Science Center of the Hefei Institute of Material Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences completed the test. The entire test process was conducted under a 7.5T background magnetic field environment. When a large current load test is performed on the magnet, when the magnet current reaches 16KA, the central field reaches 12.1T. The test verifies various operating conditions, and the results are in good agreement with the calculation and analysis conclusions. At the same time, it also verifies the rationality of the material selection and manufacturing process and design scheme. The test results announced the successful development of China's first superconducting magnet using a cable conductor of niobium, tritin and tin.

The niobium tritin superconducting material has the advantages of high critical temperature, high critical field and high current carrying capacity. At present, the critical current density of practical niobium-thin-tin superconducting wire can reach more than 2000A / mm2 under 12T & 4.5K, and it is currently the first choice for manufacturing high-field superconducting magnets in the world.

It is the first time that the strong magnetic field scientific center has used a cable conductor in a niobium-thin-tin tube to manufacture a superconducting magnet with a steady high field. The development of the test magnet is a key part of the development process of the 40T-class hybrid magnet external superconducting magnet in the strong magnetic field science center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is its preliminary research work. Difficulties and verification of the rationality of the design of conductors and coils have accumulated key technical experience for the successful development of the outer superconducting magnets of 40T hybrid magnets.

The test magnet is the first niobium-thin-tin superconducting magnet independently researched and developed by the superconducting group of the strong magnetic field science center. During the process, the technical personnel overcome many technical difficulties such as coil winding process, insulation treatment and heat treatment process, and made major technological breakthrough And technological innovation has laid an important technical foundation for the development of steady-state high-field hybrid magnet devices in China.
