A few days ago, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine released the results of a national joint supervision and spot check on 15 product categories in 2014. Among these, wooden furniture had the highest rate of unqualified products. A total of 878 batches of wooden furniture from 857 companies across 16 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities were randomly selected for testing. Out of these, 157 batches were found to be unqualified, resulting in an overall non-compliance rate of 17.9%. Of those, 75 batches were already on the market before being detected, making up 47.8% of all unqualified items.
The inspection results also revealed regional differences. The unqualified rate in seven provinces—Hebei, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong, and Sichuan—was below the national average. In Shanghai and Guizhou, the rate was close to the national average. However, several other regions, including Beijing, Jilin, Henan, Guangdong, Gansu, Ningxia, and Xinjiang, showed higher rates of non-compliant wooden furniture, indicating potential issues in quality control or manufacturing standards in those areas.
This report highlights the need for stricter oversight and improved production practices within the furniture industry. Consumers are advised to remain cautious and choose products from reputable manufacturers.
