This approach significantly reduced the need for multiple X-ray views during surgery, minimizing radiation exposure and improving safety. Just ten days after the operation, the young boy was already sitting up and watching his favorite TV shows, showing a remarkable recovery. Dr. Yang emphasized that 3D printing has revolutionized orthopedic surgery. By creating physical models, surgeons can better visualize the anatomy, identify potential issues before the actual operation, and make necessary adjustments. This not only improves the accuracy of the surgery but also enhances communication with patients and their families. The 3D models help explain the condition more clearly and increase the chances of successful treatment. With the establishment of the Shenzhen Clinical Medicine 3D Printing Research Center, the collaboration between the hospital and the tech company aims to meet the growing demand for advanced medical solutions. Currently, 3D printing is widely used for pre-surgical planning, guiding procedures with precision tools, and even creating custom implants that can restore function and improve quality of life. Although 3D printing technology is well-established for surgical guidance, its use in personalized implants is still limited due to regulatory challenges. However, as the technology advances and becomes more accessible, costs have dropped significantly. For instance, a 5-segment spinal model that once cost over 8,000 yuan now costs around 3,000 yuan. This trend suggests a promising future for 3D printing in medicine, offering more affordable and effective treatment options for patients worldwide.
