Royal British Forces Training Manual (Chapter 6 3)

look for food

Finding food is also an important part of survival training. In general, each country has a unique biological species.

So no matter where you go, there will be something to eat. In the field survival training, new members of the special air crew must learn to acquire various agricultural products such as pigs, cattle, lamb, and grain, and they must also make foods. But doing these things under the eyes of the enemy can easily be discovered by the other person, so you can only find food by other means. The Field Survival Training course teaches new players how to find and use natural resources as food. Botanists will show new members what kinds of edible natural plants they can find in the wild during the course of teaching. The new players will also have the opportunity to kill wild edible animals in person. These trainings will be of great benefit to their future survival in the wild. Although we cannot list all kinds of edible plants and animals here, we can understand the main methods and techniques for finding food.

Plant food

Edible plants are the most easily found food for new crews in the special airline groups who survive the wild. However, there are many kinds of plants in the world and it is difficult to identify which plants are edible and which plants cannot eat. Some plants are nutritious, while others are toxic and cause death after eating. This problem can be solved by special airworthy plant phytosanitary standard tests. Special forces around the world also follow the special airworthiness mission of plant edible standards to determine the plant's edible quality. However, it is not always necessary to conduct a standard test of plant edibility to determine whether plants are edible. We can sometimes determine the edible nature of plants through some laws.

Common white or yellow berry plants are toxic, half of the red berry plants are edible, and blue or black berry plants are almost edible.

Some plants have only one fruit in their stems, and these plants are generally edible.

Do not eat any plants with creamy milky juice.

Do not eat wild soybeans or peas.

Do not eat plants that are irritating to your skin.

Do not eat plants that have been bitten by insects.

Soldiers can judge the edible nature of plants more accurately through edible standards tests. Its main principle is to gradually eat plants, observe whether the body has adverse reactions, and finally determine whether the plants can be eaten. The main steps of this experiment are as follows:

1. When you do this test, you must have an empty stomach. First cut a small part of the plant, place it on the wrist and rub it back and forth, wait for 15 minutes, and observe how the skin reacts.

2. Put a small part of the plant on the outer edge of the lips and observe what happens.

3. Put a small piece of plant in your mouth and wait for 15 minutes with your tongue. If there is no adverse reaction, chewed it fully. Wait another 15 minutes for any reaction. If you don’t have any adverse reactions, continue with the following step.

4. Swallow a small plant to see if there is any adverse reaction (if you feel uncomfortable, spit it out quickly and drink plenty of water). If you still feel good, then do the following test.

5. Eat a small amount of plant and wait for a few more hours. If there is still no adverse reaction, you can be sure that the plant is edible.

The soldiers determined the edibility of the plants through the standard test of edible plants, thus ensuring their own safety. (Although there are exceptions, the standard test for plant edibles does not apply to fungi.)

Edible plants are generally eaten after heating. You must be careful when heating plants. Because many plants will undergo chemical changes when heated, from edible plants to toxic foods.

Animal food

General animal foods can only be eaten after cooking. British animal foods mainly include rabbit meat, pigeon meat, venison, and pig beef and mutton, while African animal foods are extremely versatile. Although a buffalo is enough for one person to eat for many days, hunting this animal is a very dangerous thing. Unless you are confident that you can shoot this fierce large animal beyond a very long distance, do not hunt this animal. Traps, traps, and catapults are most useful for survivors to kill animals, because there is a distance between animals and hunters in this way, which is conducive to the safety of the survivors. One thing that should be avoided in the wild should be injury. Unless you have absolute certainty to kill your prey, you must not fight with prey in close quarters, because it is too dangerous, and sometimes even a docile young goat is You can get your nose blue and blue.

The new team members must learn to hunt for fishing methods. They must also acquire certain cooking skills and be able to process the prey they have captured. Here we look at some basic hunting, cooking knowledge.

People generally trap animals with four types of traps: rope traps, balance wood traps, sharp knives, and snares.

Rope trap: This trap is more suitable for capturing animals such as rabbits. Ropes and various metal wires can be used to make rope sets temporarily. The rope cover has an eye at one end so that the other end can pass through. General traps are located in places where prey is frequent, and the rope traps must be tightly tied to the stumps, rocks, or trees. The rope cover must be a slip knot, the size of which is based on the head that can catch the prey. It is also possible to use elastic saplings to tighten the string, and when the head of the prey is drilled into the string, it will pull the organ when it is struggling. The sapling will bouncing and the prey will be lifted off the ground to capture the prey.

Balance Falling Wood Trap: This trap is an ideal tool for catching large animals. Hunting objects include wild boar and deer animals. It usually takes a long time to make a balanced wood falling stone trap. Its structure and principle are as follows: Fork-shaped rod ends are sharpened to ensure sensitive touch. The forked level lies below the weight and there is a suitable bait at the front end. The cross fork is supported on the upper end of the vertical fork to maintain the balance of heavy objects. Round logs are generally used as the weight. When an animal plunges into a bait, it drives a fork-like rod and destroys the balance of the supporting wood. The log will collapse in an instant, kill its prey and kill it.

Sharp knife pile drop trap: At the end of the sapling, a sharpened wooden stake is tied and the sapling is bent and fixed with a trigger wire. One end of the trigger line is hidden on the path the animal must pass. After the animal pulls on the trigger line, the young tree is released and the sharp knife post rapidly punctures the prey under the action of the elastic force. Normally, the prey will be seriously injured if it does not die.

Luo Wang: Luo Wang is the simplest kind of trap. It is mainly used for catching birds. Placing the net among the trees where the birds are often seen is an easy way of catching birds. If you don't have a net, you can also cross the rope. Birds often bump into cross-ties that line the trees.

The survivors can also use catapults such as slingshots, darts, and bows to hunt.

Set the trap rule:

Practicality first: Any trap must be captured for the purpose of hunting.

Hidden trails: Do not leave visible traces of your surroundings when constructing and handling traps - such as footprints. If possible, wear a pair of gloves to avoid leaving sweat and odors.

Clever disguise: Try not to change the natural environment around the trap, and disguise the trap. The more natural it is, the better it is to harmonize with the environment.

The school organizes a banquet attended by all trainees before the end of the field survival training course. At the banquet, you can eat various foods that will help you to survive in the wild, such as rats, hedgehogs, bugs and crickets.

Fire

One of the basic courses in field survival training is to teach new players how to use fire without matches. Outdoor fire must have three elements. They are fire, firelighter and fuel. Fires generally refer to materials that require only a little heat to ignite. Hay, fine wood chips, and fluffy cotton are good fires. The first thing to ignite during a fire is a fire. Firelights are woody materials that can increase the fire of a burning fire. Dry twigs are the best firelighters. Fuel refers to various materials that maintain the fire. Soldiers of special aircrews are usually equipped with waterproof matches, but field survival training requires that they must master methods without firing matches. The firing sequence of this method is such that the heat is used to ignite the fire, then the firelighter is added to increase the fire, and finally the fuel is used to maintain the fire. The main method of firing is as follows:

Flintstones and clapping fires: Mars sparked by striking fire can ignite the fire. When you use fire, you use a steel igniting hammer to hit the flint. The sparks that spurt will ignite the dry fire and you can add firelighters.

Hand drills and fire plows: Both methods use the principle of friction heat ignition. Hand drill requires a hardwood board, a V-shaped cut in the bottom of the board to hold the fire, but still allow space for air circulation; cut a small hole near the cut, use a hollow The softer wood rods act as spindles. Place the spindle between the two hands and continue to force it deeper and deeper. Friction causes spindle wood to heat red; light air blowing can ignite the fire.

The working principle of the fire plow is the same as that of a hand drill. Shave a straight ditch at the bottom of a cork board, then use a spearlike hardwood tip to plow before and after, so that the fire is first produced, and then the fire can be ignited.

Convex lens firing: Convex lenses can produce a lot of heat after focusing, which is a common knowledge. Lens firing is the use of this principle, strong sunlight through the convex lens can produce a lot of heat, these heat enough to ignite the fire, the telescope lens can also be used as a convex lens.
