"The determination of combustion heat" is one of the important teaching contents of physical chemistry experiments. The experimental device commonly used in domestic universities in the teaching process of this experiment is the GR3500 oxygen bomb calorimeter. The GR3500 oxygen bomb calorimeter has its own control box. However, the use of the corresponding control box requires the use of the ignition wire specially supplied by the manufacturer of the experimental device, which is relatively expensive, resulting in an increase in the experimental cost. Moreover, the output voltage of the ignition box of the control box is too small, and often the failure to successfully ignite causes the experiment to fail. Because the student installed the experimental device improperly, the ignition wire terminal is short-circuited and the student does not cut off the ignition power after ignition, the control box transformer is burnt out, the control box is scrapped, and there is a large potential safety hazard.
Our designed oxygen bomb calorimeter control box can completely replace the GR3500 oxygen bomb calorimeter control box and has significantly improved performance in many aspects. With the newly designed oxygen bomb calorimeter control box, ordinary copper wire (disassembled wire) can be used as the ignition wire without using a special ignition wire, saving the experiment cost and ensuring a high ignition success rate. The control box adopts the push button switch as the ignition power switch, which can avoid the accidental operation of the student, the short circuit of the ignition wire terminal and the student does not cut off the ignition power in time after ignition, which causes the control box transformer to burn out, which greatly increases the safety of the experiment. . The device uses a safe and reliable standard plug, and the control box can be used in various oxygen bomb calorimeters for easy replacement.
The development of the newly designed oxygen bomb calorimeter control box and the promotion and application in the actual teaching process were funded by the “New Experiment and Experimental Teaching Reform Project†of Zhejiang University National Chemical Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center. The design and production of the oxygen bomb calorimeter control box has been applied in the course of the "Intermediate Chemistry Experiment II" and "University Chemistry Experiment P" courses undertaken by the Intermediate Chemistry Laboratory of Zhejiang University Chemistry Teaching Experimental Center in September 2012. So far, 4,272 person* hours have been used. The equipment is easy to operate, stable in performance, and has not been used until now, and the teaching effect is good. The equipment assembly cost is low, and the cost can be controlled within 120 yuan/set. In view of the fact that many colleges and universities in China use the GR3500 oxygen bomb calorimeter in the teaching process of the "physical chemistry experiment", the oxygen bomb calorimeter control box designed by us has a good promotion and application value.
