One-time HIV drug packaging

A multi-layered aluminum foil pouch packaged by LPS Industries' Nevirapine oral solution won the FPA's Social Responsibility Special Award.

Nevirapine oral solution can effectively prevent the mother-to-child transmission of HIV virus, especially to prevent HIV transmission through the blood during childbirth. Although drugs do not need to be refrigerated, infants are required to take them within 72 hours of birth, preferably within 24 hours.

LPS has developed a composite aluminum foil pouch whose structure is from outside to inside: polyester/non-solvent adhesive layer/aluminum foil layer/non-solvent adhesive layer/low-density polyethylene. The total thickness is approximately 4 mils. The usage instructions are printed on the outer polyester using a two-color flexo to illustrate the method of feeding the infant and indicate that the product should be stored in a cool, dry place. The packaging bag has a three-side seal structure with a rough size of 3 inches by 8 inches. The seal uses double-sided tape and has a self-adhesive function. The folded bag portion can be folded and taped. Using this bag can provide safe protection for take-out Nevirapine oral solution.

The package was widely recognized after its launch and has been adopted by the Kenyan government and applied to 3,000 clinics nationwide.
